Help shape New Tampa's 56-acre park at K-Bar Ranch

A K-Bar Ranch park meeting, a Michelin-starred chef in North Hyde Park and Tampa concert picks.

Fifty-six acres in K-Bar Ranch could become athletic fields, trails and play areas, and the neighbors who would use them get their first chance to weigh in on Oct. 15, 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The city says the park is still in the planning stages, so nothing is locked in yet.

The big story
When
Thursday, Oct. 15 · 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Where
Cross Creek Park & Recreation Center
Address
19019 Basset Creek Drive

The K-Bar Ranch park site has gained 10,300 saplings over the past year, and now the city wants residents' ideas for the rest of it. Councilman Luis Viera calls the site "a generational gem in New Tampa," and the city says the park will serve the wider New Tampa area as well as K-Bar Ranch. Plans are still early. The site has room for multipurpose athletic fields, trails, picnic areas and play spaces, but those are options, not commitments. The launch meeting is Thursday, Oct. 15, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Cross Creek's rec center on Basset Creek Drive. Viera will be joined by parks director Ted Fowler and Skanska's project team. Can't make it? The city says it will add more chances to weigh in as work progresses.

Chef Stefano Ciotti, who holds a Michelin star, says he wants classic Italian cooking to "feel fresh and exciting again." The menu runs from antipasti and fresh-made pastas to signature entrées, plus playful takes on classic Italian desserts. Then come the showpieces: a three-level Tutti Antipasti Tower of chef-curated antipasti, a Martini Tower that brings 12 espresso or dirty martinis to the table, along with a six-drink Cocktail Carousel. It also keeps late hours. Doors open at 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 3 p.m. on weekends. Closing is 11 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and Sunday, midnight Thursday, and 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday.

Tampa Convention Center takes Southeast gold a fourth straight year

The Tampa Convention Center has hosted more than 320,000 attendees in 2026, the city says. The center sits on the Riverwalk in a walkable downtown, close to dining, hotels and entertainment. By the city's estimate, the center's local economic impact this year is about $149 million. Now it has more hardware: Northstar Meetings Group named it the Southeast's best convention center at the 10th annual Stella Awards, the fourth year in a row it has taken gold. Industry judges made the pick after a public vote by event professionals. The building offers 600,000 square feet of event space on the downtown waterfront.
